The American Lebanese Policy Institute Political Action Committee (ALPI PAC) strongly condemns the attack on the UNIFIL, which resulted in the death of a peacekeeper and injuries to others. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the fallen and to all those serving under the United Nations flag, and we wish a full recovery to the wounded.

This attack is part of a continued pattern of escalation that undermines the ceasefire, destabilizes southern Lebanon, and directly challenges the authority of the Lebanese state. Targeting UNIFIL is not only a violation of international law, it is a deliberate attempt to obstruct efforts to restore order, enforce United Nations resolutions, and protect civilian populations.

ALPI PAC unequivocally condemns the actions of Hezbollah, whose armed presence and ongoing operations outside state control remain the central obstacle to Lebanon’s sovereignty and long-term stability. Hezbollah’s activities, supported and directed by Iran, continue to place Lebanon at risk, weaken its institutions, and undermine any credible path toward peace.

There can be no ambiguity. A ceasefire cannot hold, and stability cannot be achieved, while an armed militia operates independently of the state. The full enforcement of the ceasefire must include the complete disarmament of Hezbollah and the prohibition of armed non-state actors. Sovereignty requires one authority and one military; nothing less.

ALPI PAC supports sustained United States leadership in advancing regional stability and reinforcing the conditions necessary for long-term security. Diplomatic efforts that bring Lebanese and Israeli leadership into direct engagement can play a critical role in advancing a durable framework for peace, strengthening security guarantees, and addressing the ongoing threats posed by Iran and its proxy network.

The path forward is clear and overdue: full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701, restoration of exclusive state control over arms, and the reestablishment of Lebanon as a sovereign state free from militia control and external interference.

ALPI PAC stands firmly in support of all efforts that uphold international law, protect civilians, and advance a secure, sovereign, and stable Lebanon.
